Budget Planner Prerequisites and Deployment Steps

Power ON Budget Planner is available in two versions:

  • Read-only demo version - This version is available in Microsoft AppSource. It does not support writeback functionality, so you will not need a Power ON license, writeback service, or database to explore the application. You can install Power ON Budget Planner with a single click in AppSource. If you wish to access all the features, please contact our sales team via https://insightsoftware.com/contact-us/.
  • Full version - This version includes all available features.

Listed below are the prerequisites and deployment steps for the full version of Power ON Budget Planner.

Prerequisites

Before installing the full version, ensure that you meet the following prerequisites:

  • Have a valid Power ON license and install the Power ON writeback service.
  • Have the Power BI Premium Capacity or Premium Per User license.
    • Optional - Have the Power BI Pro license but note that it does not support using the Data Entry Matrix visual (DEMx) for write-back on totals.
  • MS SQL Server 2019+ or Azure SQL.
    • During the initial deployment, ensure you have the required permissions to create the Budget Planner database or the permissions to create a Schema.
  • Create an Active Directory group that includes users working with Budget Planner to enable the configuration of Row Level Security.
    • Optional - Manually add users and assign security roles in Budget Planner.

Deployment Steps

Follow these steps to deploy Power ON Budget Planner:

  1. Deploy the Budget Planner’s SQL database to your SQL Server.
  2. Extract the Power BI data model from the PBIT file included in the package and then connect this data model to the previously deployed SQL database. Verify that the connection is successful.
  3. Open the Budget Planner Power BI report file and connect it to the data model created in the previous step.
  4. Identify the writeback-capable visuals within the Power BI report. Update their web service URLs to point to the client’s specific web service.
